Sony has officially confirmed the launch of the PlayStation 5 Slim, which will be available this holiday season and will have a number of features that will make console fans go crazy.
The new PS5’s more compact design features 1TB of storage for both the standard PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition, which is an increase from 825GB in the original versions of the console. Additionally, this new model offers the option to add an Ultra HD Blu-Ray drive to the PS5 Digital Edition.
According to Sid Shuman, SIE’s senior director of content communications, Sony designed this new PS5 “to meet the evolving needs of gamers.”
“Our engineering and design teams worked together to create a new design that offers greater versatility and flexibility,” Schumann said. “All the technical features that make the PS5 better for gaming have been packed into a more compact design, along with the option to add an Ultra HD Blu-Ray drive and a 1TB solid-state drive for more internal storage.”
According to information provided by Sony, this new PS5 model has managed to reduce the volume by more than 30% and the weight by 18% and 24% compared to previous versions. It has four separate covers, the top part has a glossy finish and the bottom part keeps the matte finish. Those who purchase the PS5 Digital Edition will be able to later add an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive for the PS5, which will be sold separately for 1,599 Mexican pesos.
The new PS5 model will be available from November in the United States at select local retailers and direct.playstation.com where available. After that, it will continue in other parts of the world in the following months. Once the current PS5 model runs out of stock, the new model will be the only option available.
