Red Matter 2 receives visual improvements from Quest 2 and Quest 3

A Spanish study Vertical robot has managed to turn Red Matter 2 into a benchmark in terms of visual quality that can be achieved in Meta Quest headsets, and it will be very difficult for others to surpass it. They just released an update with improvements for Quest 2 and released a video previewing what we will see in Quest 3.

On both headsets, players will now be able to unlock achievements throughout the adventure (as was already the case on PC VR and PSVR2). In the graphics department, the Quest 2 version now supports dynamic resolution, improving visual clarity. As for the improvements for Quest 3, here is the list:

  • Screen resolution improvements: Dynamic resolution now allows an upper limit of 3322×3519, a significant increase from the 1226×1440 previously set in Quest 2.
  • 4K Textures: Taking advantage of Quest 3’s improved memory, textures have been enhanced to console quality with up to 16x the pixel count.
  • Anisotropic Filtering: On-screen textures now benefit from Aniso 8x, greatly improving clarity.
  • Dynamic Shadows: Spotlights now cast dynamic shadows, adding a layer of realism to the scene.
  • PCF5x5 Shadow Filtering: Selected surfaces display console-quality shadow filtering, creating softer, more realistic shadows.
  • LOD Mesh Improvements: Improved graphics reduce LOD jitter for a more cohesive visual experience.
  • Frame Rate Adaptability: During combat, Quest 3 will dynamically adjust its frame rate from 72 to 90 fps.

To give you an idea of what we can expect between Quest 2 and 3, one fact: the Quest 3 version of Red Matter 2 will take 9.1 GBwhile the size of Quest 2 is equal 5.6 GB.
