4 disruptive products that were in Peruvian wineries a few years ago

From cookies that explode in your mouth to snacks inspired by typical dishes such as Arroz con Pato. Between 2010 and recent years, several brands have dared to break the mold by bringing to market the traditional tastes of the Peruvian consumer. Some became marketing curiosities, others recalled experiments in local innovations.

Although we have seen in recent years brands – all over the world – bet on launching rather unusual presentations of the products they manufacture or produce, this is not something new (they have been doing it for a long time). And they know that staying in the “comfort zone” is not enough if they want to attract the attention of consumers.

Moreover, our country has also witnessed these attempts to exploit the disruption by various companies. However, among those that have used this strategy the most to build that anticipation and – of course – the profits that innovative product development promises are consumer products.

The above has led to some drinks, snacks and even cookies appearing in wineries and supermarkets across the country in a rather unusual form. What is special? Well, it lay in its flavors, ingredients, appearance, and even the sensation that consuming them produced.

Here is a small summary of some of them, launched in the early 2000s and up until recently:

Casino boom

Launched in 2012 by Alicorp, this cookie was a take on the classic Casino sandwich, but with a twist that was guaranteed to cause an explosion in your mouth. This is because the filling contained peculiar sprinkles that caused this effect when consumed.

Fanta mystery

The soda brand has decided to release a limited edition for Halloween in 2023. Advertised as the mystery flavor version, this version was red in color (similar to Fanta Cola Inglesa) with black packaging and, surprise surprise, it gave me an itchy throat.

Permanisms

Although there are now snack versions of chips with different flavors, Lay’s wanted to create chips inspired by the most exquisite flavors of Peruvian cuisine. Called Peruanisimas, the offering featured two options, one with the essence and flavor of grilled chicken and the other with duck rice.

Pelapop de D’Onofrio

In 2012, hundreds of children were mesmerized by a unique ice cream that D’Onofrio launched in the country. It was vanilla ice cream topped with a layer of banana-flavored gummy that gave the impression that the fruit was being peeled.
