It’s more than clear that the focus of this generation’s Xbox is to make Game Pass be available on as many devices as possible. So much has been said about the possibility of seeing this device on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. However, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has finally spoken out on the subject, ruling out the possibility entirely this.

In a recent interview with Windows Central, Spencer was asked about previous reports and rumors pointing to Microsoft’s plans to bring Xbox Game Pass to Nintendo and PlayStation consoles. However, the manager made it clear that it is not the focus of the company at this time, and they care more about giving people who have an Xbox a better experience. Here’s what he commented:

“I’ll start by saying that we have no plans to port Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo. This is not part of our plans. What I want to focus on is how can we continue to innovate for the people who have dedicated themselves to our hardware platform? And how do we continue to make sure they feel good about their investment in what we’ve built?

Game Pass has been one of the things we’ve built over the last five years and continue to grow, it’s on PC, it’s in the cloud. It’s an important part of the Xbox console’s identity. And I think it will continue to be so. And we will continue to look for future ways to innovate our game portfolio and platform.”

However, Spencer’s response contradicts what Tim Stewart, Xbox’s CFO, said that one of the company’s goals is to bring Game Pass to every possible screenand it becomes clear that this is part of his long-term goals:

“Our mission is to bring our own experience and subscription services to all screens that can play. “That means smart TVs, mobile devices, that’s what we would have thought of as competitors in the past, like PlayStation and Nintendo.”

With Activision Blizzard’s purchase of King finally complete, rumor has it that Xbox now has time to focus on bringing Game Pass to as many platforms as possible. Although we already find this subscription service on PC, as well as mobile devices and TVs through the cloud, Reports indicate that Microsoft has done everything possible to let Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 users They also have access to the gigantic library we find on this platform.

Along with this, the interview highlights the fact that Spencer He spoke positively about the hardware of the Xbox Series X|S. Recall that in recent weeks, negative figures related to the sales of these consoles have been published, which paint a not very positive picture for the brand in this section:

“Obviously, I’m going to have my own perspective on our equipment. But I think our hardware teams have done a great job with this generation of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, delivering value and performance across all hardware. When I think about investing in things like Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming, cross-play and cross-save and ID@Xbox, all those things, I want us to continue to innovate so that people on our console feel like we making investments in consoles that match the commitments they make to us.”

On a related topic, here’s why Xbox doesn’t share its console sales. Likewise, these are the games coming to Xbox Game Pass this month.

Editor’s note:

Game Pass is part of Xbox’s identity, and while it would be interesting to see the platform on Nintendo and PlayStation consoles, it doesn’t have much of a place in the vision that Microsoft’s rivals have. So it’s not a huge loss if Game Pass doesn’t come to Switch or PS5.
