Pokemon Go players are furious that Niantic basically missed out on one of the biggest and most popular Pokemon generations.
Pokemon Go’s runaway success over the years has led to a flood of content, with more and more generations being added to the game. Most Pokemon from the series are playable in Pokemon Go.
At some point, the decision had to be made to slow down content updates so that new things could be added to Pokemon Go in the generation gaps. This means that fans are still waiting patiently as some Pokemon and mechs are yet to be introduced in Pokemon Go.

There is one generation of Pokemon that has surprisingly been forgotten in Pokemon Go. Despite being one of the biggest double entries in the series since the early days of PokeMania, it has sold millions of copies worldwide.

A user on the Pokemon Go Reddit shared a meme about how Niantic forgot about Pokemon Sword & Shield, which led to users taking to the thread to express their frustration at the Galar region being overlooked in Pokemon Go.

“Niantic, you have the top Gen 8 legends. Where’s my soccer bunny and gorilla drummer?!” one user writes and another says: “I started playing the main games in 8th gen, I want my soccer rabbit, James Bond in a fur suit and a gorilla drummer.”
Many fans are surprised that the three starter Pokemon from Pokemon Sword & Shield and their evolutions were not added, considering how popular they are in the real world and how starter Pokemon are usually the top priority for additions to Pokemon Go.

Even more surprising is that Pokemon Go lacks the Dynamax mechanic. They look like natural additions to the game, but they aren’t. Then again, Gen 7’s Z-Moves and Gen 9’s Terastallization are also missing, so maybe Niantic doesn’t want too many combat mechanics.
Extinct Gen 8 Pokemon are most likely being kept for a slower period as they can bring a ton of content to the game. It’s a shame that Pokemon Sword & Shield fans had to wait so long, especially considering how popular those games were on the Nintendo Switch.
