International Safer Internet Day: PlayStation shares activities to protect players

As we told you before, today is it International Safer Internet Day and yes PlayStation have decided to release an official statement outlining and describing some of the tasks they do to maintain a safe environment for all their users. We share them here:

“With more than 100 million monthly active users on our network, we are proud that PlayStation is home to a large community of gaming fans from all walks of life. At Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), our team works hard to provide these millions of gamers with a comfortable, safe and accessible gaming environment.

Our approach to security is based on three pillars: application, control and protection, each of which is based on innovative technology solutions and knowledge of our global community and its needs. Ahead of the 21st Safer Internet Day, we’re celebrating the progress we’ve made across three pillars to prioritize the safety of our players, and to remind every player of the role they play in creating a positive gaming environment.

Enforcement – An easier to understand Code of Conduct
Our Code of Conduct guides players to ensure a healthy gaming community on the PlayStation Network (PSN). To make it clearer and more accessible to any player, we’ve refined and updated our Code of Conduct to be consistent around the world, separated it from our PSN Terms of Service and User Agreement, and made it more accessible. All new and existing users must read and agree to these rules before playing online.

PlayStation for everyone. We encourage all of our players to take the time to periodically review our Code of Conduct and Anti-Host Policy to understand what constitutes acceptable in-game behavior.

Match – skilled human moderation for a positive community
Moderation is the process of determining whether user-reported content on PSN violates our Code of Conduct and taking appropriate action when a violation is found. SIE has qualified and trained teams of moderators who review content 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to messages, we moderate voice chat, profile content, Game Base group names, online IDs, and some in-game communications when reported.

We now moderate in over 30 languages and take into account culture, history, laws, etc. the location of the complaining user. We take all posts very seriously, and all actions on reported accounts will only be taken after the content has been reviewed by a moderator. These actions are always reported and we are actively working to educate our players, including the severity and actions we will take for negative behavior on PSN, such as temporary or permanent bans. We also offer players the ability to appeal permanent suspensions in the 40 countries where PSN is available, and we’re looking to expand this ability to temporary suspensions in more countries as well.

Control & Shield – technology and solutions for players for greater confidence and safety
At SIE, we actively work to protect our players from negative experiences by improving tools and features or by learning and adapting to player needs through presets and automation tactics.

While we remind our players that they have the ability to control their PSN experience with features like ‘block’, ‘mute’ and ‘report’ when they encounter negative interactions, we’ve listened to player feedback and implemented solutions to protect them. further. We recently added a “block by default” feature to prevent repeat negative experiences when using the “report” feature.

We are committed to protecting our youngest and most vulnerable players. In addition to providing parents with parental control tools that allow them to customize their children’s PSN settings, creating a child’s PSN account on PS5 defaults all social privacy settings to high. This means that by default player communication and account visibility are limited unless the family manager changes these settings.

We are also working in some markets to test age verification technology to ensure an age-appropriate experience for our youngest players. While we are still in the pilot phase, we have gained valuable insights into how we can better support our young players through the account creation process and will continue to innovate and advance our solutions for trust and security to promote a safe and enjoyable online community. all players.

We all participate in a positive gaming community
Although Safer Internet Day is only held once a year, the online world is always evolving. Only with the commitment of all players can we continue to create and maintain a positive place to play. Your participation in reporting abuse and enforcing our Code of Conduct is critical to improving the online world.”
