It’s hard to look at the current generation game equipment and you don’t feel the way we are in silence before the thunderstorm. Because while the PS5 Pro just came out last year, and Microsoft just had a vivid tease of the following consoles, it still feels that we are sitting at the end of the generation. But at the end of the tunnel there is light.
We have the opportunity to sit down with Mark Sergey, leading architect PS5 and PS5 Pro, and Jack June, SVP AMD for computing and graphics to talk about Graphics Tech. Until they would go as far as endorse PS6 goes on the road, they definitely think about it. In any case, we cannot talk about graphic technology in consoles without acknowledging where the video card is – because much has changed since the PS5 came out in 2020 thanks to AI.

A disappointing generation of graphics?
It is interesting to think about future graphic technologies. We have fresh weak. For example, despite the fact that NVIDIA RTX 5090 now consumes up to 580 W, which is compared to 450 watts from RTX 4090, most games in most games show an improvement about 10-25%.
This is definitely betterBut it is not a significant increase in the performance of the graphic processor, which we have been waiting for every couple of years. AMD went a little better, and the RX 9070 XT made up about 17% faster than the RX 7900 XT, but at a less price – although this lower price did not last long before the retailers raised it. I talked to both AMD and Nvidia about it, and both manufacturers tell me the same thing: it is increasingly difficult to cut the production process and add more transistors, so software is a way of improving performance.
Both GPU manufacturers are very leaning against their software apartments. With RTX 5090 Nvidia launched its DLSS 4 software set, which was a controversial multiplayer -generation or MFG. Similarly, AMD debuted in the RX 9070 XT with FSR 4, which first implemented AI, which runs at GPU, as well as an improved generation. Love it or hate it, frame generation is now a standard feature for graphic equipment.
After all, it is not difficult to see the appeal. With the click button you can get your graphic card to enter AI-generated frames to provide a higher frame rate and who doesn’t want any more frames? Like most things, there is catch.
The staffing is essentially working, holding the frame in the queue of visualization, while interpolled frame is inserted between the “real” frames. This can introduce visual artifacts, but the bigger problem is that it necessarily adds delay. These are both huge problems, but they can be improved by having a higher frame rate. So, I would not recommend enabled frame if you no longer get 45-60fps formerly Generation frame.
It is easy to take advantage of this advice and run with it when you install one of these graphic processors into the game PC, but the next generation of consoles will probably work on the graphic processors that will support the frame generation, and gamers will probably have much less control over what functions they will use.

AI in games is just beginning
The PS5 Pro has already broken the seal when the AI is implemented in the console. This middle -generation console introduced PSSR, or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a Sony version that works at AI capacity. But it was just the beginning. The sulfur has already come out and said it PSSR became the beginning of what will become Amethyst project – partnership with AMD To make the game schedule better for everyone that will certainly include Microsoft.
You see, PSSR can only do so much on the limited PS5 Pro. Because he needed to maintain compatibility with the PS5 of the current generation, GPU still uses a largely 2-khata RDNA to assist in AI AI custom RDNA equipment. However, most of the PSR work is still done locally at the shader core rather than transferred to the Tensor block or other AI accelerator. This will not be in the next generation of consoles.
According to Cerny, AMD and Sony have developed a new algorithm to enhance AI -based scaling, which is reported that FSR Redstone was announced on Computex 2025, at least partly based. We did not see this new algorithm personally, but it is sure that when DLSS 4 changed the Nvidia scale to the transformer model, rather than CNN (the collapse neuron). This new jointly designed algorithm is designed to scale games that look more harsh than it is now, and the TRANSFORMER TEAM GREEN is actually Pretty well is what it does.
What’s more, Jack Joon AMD allowed to slip that “the equipment to accelerate machine learning (we), which is engaged in a joint means on RDNA 5, our next generation is the immediate result of the cooperation we make.” We didn’t even know that the next generation GPU would called RDNA 5 still, not to mention that Sony’s collaboration has helped develop it. Neither the side nor the Huna confirmed that RDNA 5 “or what would be called,” would be what the next -generation PlayStation’s power is, but why isn’t that at this point?
Even if PS6 is built on RDNA 4, it will gain access to the same AI Acasterator cores that allow the RX 9070 XT to use AI UPSALING. But Sony is not interested in limiting developers just Increase in scale. Sirny himself said that “it would support Chatgpt if developers want it”, even if it is not what Sony actually focuses on. Instead of Sony Interactive Entertainment ( schedule The technology is better, but of course it will include the frame generation.

Gen Frame is likely to come to the next -generation consoles
Now AI is inherently controversial, but when it comes to graphic technology, it offers a tempting opportunity for the manufacturers of the platforms. After all, this allows for sharp improvements in the quality of the image without untreated performance, which is otherwise required. Instead, you can just do with less resolution and then use AI to speed up rendering. While the AI models are intensively, it takes much less work to make your graphic graphic noble image be higher than to make all these pixels an old -fashioned way.
The generation of personnel transfer this concept to another level, adding a brand new footage to the render. You can say that these shots are artificial and you are not even mistaken, but that doesn’t mean this technique does not come to the PlayStation 6-If it’s really called the next-generation Sony console. But at least it seems that it will not be comprehensive, at least not to start.
When we asked the Sir for whether the shot generation was being generated, despite the need for high -speed frames to start, he told us that it eventually comes down to the player’s choice. “(SIE) can support high -rate frames, having lower rendering and more aggressive super -recovery,” he said. “We can also support the high rate of frames using the frame generation. And as soon as this choice there, Sony can learn more about what gamers want.”
This is not the best answer, but it really sounds that Sony will eventually leave the opportunity to use staff for developers. “We offer tools for the developers,” Sirney said.
None of the next generation consoles are not yet announced if you do not count the 2nd switch we know very little about what they will look, not to mention what functions AI they will support. But if all the controversial functions of AI come on the console, then the manufacturers of consoles will need to implement some fences to provide good experience.
Because, while Nvidia and AMD are pushing software features into a high -class video card and allow everyone else to find out what they want to turn on, consoles are much less adjusted. If the generation of the frame becomes the main function of the PS6, it must be optional on the user’s side. I worry that if developers can just turn it on the back level, we get a lot of games “60 frames per second” that feel a lot in 30 frames per second when you are sitting to play them.
