Google has announced the arrival in Latin America of “Personal Intelligence”, a new feature of the artificial intelligence assistant Gemini, which aims to offer more useful and personalized answers based on the user’s information.
The tool, which was initially introduced in beta in the US, allows you to connect apps from the Google ecosystem, such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube and Search, with a single tap. The goal is to improve the assistant’s ability to understand personal context and respond more accurately.
As Josh Woodward, vice president of Google Labs, Gemini & AI Studio, explained, the idea is for assistants to not only understand the world, but also each user.
Personalization based on user data
The feature allows users to decide which apps to connect and use that information to solve everyday tasks. Its capabilities include the ability to extract specific data, such as information from emails or images, and combine it with advanced reasoning to provide personalized responses.
For example, the system can extract detailed information from a photo stored in Google Photos or identify relevant information in Gmail emails to solve practical questions, from product recommendations to travel planning.
In addition, the tool can generate suggestions based on habits and interests, such as recommendations for books, programs or travel destinations, using information previously recorded in related applications.
Privacy and control
Google emphasized that privacy is a key component of this functionality. Cross-app connection is disabled by default, and the user has full control over what data is shared and when.
The company also assured that personal data, such as emails or images, is not used directly to train artificial intelligence models, but only to answer specific queries. Similarly, Gemini will show the sources used in its answers or allow the user to request them.
In sensitive topics, the system avoids making assumptions, although it can analyze information if the user explicitly requests it.
Gradual deployment
Personal Intelligence is currently available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States, and is beginning to expand to Latin America. The company noted that the rollout will be gradual and that it will include more countries and a free tier in the future.
The feature is available on the web, Android and iOS, but for now only for personal accounts, thus excluding business and education users.
