Just last week, Square Enix released a free demo of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth on PlayStation 5. Despite all the positive potential of the game, some visual technical issues caught the attention of players, showing how There is still a lot of room for improvement.
The main complaints on social media were about texture quality, as well as overall image quality in Performance mode, where the game is excessively blurry.
Low-res textures caused controversy in the Final Fantasy demo.Font: Digital Foundry
The folks at Digital Foundry watched the demo and noticed that some of the textures are actually low resolution. It looks like the developers built the scene from a mix of high quality and low quality textures, which becomes apparent when we take a closer look at some of the assets.
Also, many people think that the resolution of the performance mode was too low, but according to Digital Foundry, it is actually 1440p. The overwhelming feeling of low resolution and image blur is probably due to reducing the quality of the game’s post-processing effects.

In addition, the demo presents other issues such as cascading shadows and in environments with indirect lighting. Overall, there aren’t any aspects of the visuals that suggest heavy use of the next-gen hardware, except for the higher frame rates in performance mode.
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will receive improvements with the update
Amidst all the player feedback regarding the demo, Square Enix responded that a software update scheduled for February 21st will bring improvements to the performance mode’s image quality.
