Fortnite Godzilla vs Kong update 33.20: leaks and everything we know

The annual Fortnite Winterfest event ends on January 7th after a month of festivities, paving the way for the highly anticipated next major update in Chapter 6, Season 1: Version 33.20.

Epic’s update plans to deliver the biggest collaboration of the season, originally shown in the Hunters season trailer, Godzilla and King Kong are set to have an epic showdown in the game. But that’s not all – there are many more content additions to come, including a virtual anime pop star.

Here’s everything expected to be included in the Fortnite 33.20 patch notes.

Fortnite Update 33.20 Downtime Details

Fortnite update 33.20 is scheduled to be released on January 14, 2024. Epic has yet to confirm a start time, but downtime is expected starting at 4am PST / 7am ET / 12:00 GMT.

As with previous updates, Epic Games will announce the downtime schedule in advance via its official Fortnite Status account on Twitter/X.

Matchmaking will usually be disabled shortly before the maintenance period begins, but players will still be able to download the update while waiting for the servers to come back online. While the exact duration of the outage remains uncertain, it is expected to last several hours.

Godzilla makes his way across the Season 1 Chapter 6 map in the season launch trailer.

Content update 33.20 will supposedly be all about Monsterverse collaboration. Details have been kept under wraps by Epic, with the only official information being a Godzilla figure in this season’s trailer, Kong mentioned in the trailer’s copyright info, and the Godzilla Evolved skin shown as a locked Battle Pass reward.

However, the general consensus is that the update will include an in-game live event, which is expected to be an NPC boss battle between Godzilla and King Kong, to mimic the 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong movie. After the event, both iconic titans are expected to play as NPC bosses on the island in Chapter 6 Season 1 to be hunted down and eliminated for exclusive loot rewards.

Trusted Fortnite leaker Loolo_WRLD also found a file codenamed “banana” that contains the names “Roar, Roar (Long/Short), Step, and Knock,” which are believed to be moves for the NPC King Kong boss.

Godzilla Evolved and Mecha Godzilla skins

While much of the content in the update was added to Fortnite on January 14th, two Godzilla skins with two pages of cosmetic rewards will be unlocked for Battle Pass owners on January 17th.

These include the Godzilla Evolved skin and the expected Mecha Godzilla skin style, further supported by the Mech Godzilla Back Bling skin shown below, as revealed by the trusty Blortzen.

Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is the world’s most popular Vocaloid.

According to multiple leaks, Japanese virtual pop sensation Hatsune Miku is set to headline the festival’s Season 7, replacing Snoop Dogg.

Starting on January 14th, the Music Pass will revolve around Miku, offering players exclusive skins and cosmetics as part of the Music Mode Premium Pass. It is not yet known if she will receive some form of item or weapon in the Battle Royale loot pool, or if this is just a cosmetic collaboration.

Fans may have already spotted subtle easter eggs hinting at her arrival scattered around the map for Chapter 6 of Season 1. These include an inflatable shark dog and a leek hidden around the Seaport City POI, which can be found in our guide.

Map changes

Godzilla is expected to roam the island of Battle Royale as an NPC boss, some parts of the map are likely to change like before when NPC bosses and in-game events occur. The snow that started melting as part of the last weekly update on January 7th should also be completely melted.

Story quests

Splinters of Possibility quests are scheduled to launch on January 14th at 9am ET / 6am PT / 2pm GMT, as indicated on the Fortnite Quests tab in the in-game menu. They mark the third installment of this season’s story quests and, according to Loolo_WRLD, will include forging a blade and helping Night Rose at the end.
