Ahead of the release of update 33.20, it was announced that the Fortnite server was down.
The new Fortnite update will be available for download on the morning of January 14th. However, you won’t actually be able to check out the new content until the server is out of service.
According to Epic Games, Fortnite will be completely disabled at 9am GMT, although matchmaking will be disabled shortly before that.
If you want a quick game of Fortnite before the break, you’ll probably need to join the game before 8:30am GMT.
The news was announced by Epic Games on X (formerly Twitter), along with a hint of what fans can expect from the new update.
“Prepare for devastation!” reads Epic’s tweet. “Downtime for v33.20 starts at 4am ET, build ends shortly before that.”
For UK fans, this means that Fortnite will be shut down completely at 9am GMT, and matchmaking will be shut down at 8.30am UK time.
Epic doesn’t say exactly when the downtime will end, but maintenance usually lasts 2-3 hours.
This means that Fortnite and all associated game modes should be back online from 11am GMT.
Since it’s been a few weeks since the last update, there’s a chance that the file size may be larger than usual, so keep checking back for more information.
As you can see from the tweet above, Godzilla will be joining the game as a new boss. Kong is also expected to join the game as part of another new crossover.
Speaking of crossovers, Epic Games just announced Hatsune Miku as the Season 7 Fortnite Festival Icon.
This includes two Hatsune Miku skins, as well as the Beam Emote and the Hatsune Miku Festival Stage.
Fans can also expect new information to leak about Fortnite OG Season 2, which is likely to be released at the end of the month.
Needless to say, Epic Games will also fix a lot of bugs and tweak the gameplay.
