Hatsune Miku hits the Fortnite store as the world celebrates

Arguably one of the most anticipated Fortnite collaborations in a long time, at least based on the 200,000 tweets about it, is the in-game appearance of Hatsune Miku, a virtual music artist who now has a skin, back glow, emotes, and music packs among others available in the game.

Hatsune Miku went live in shop transition mode and has two main sets: a 3200 V-Bucks pack with nine items including her skin which has a reactive version. You can buy her skin separately for 1500 V-Bucks.

There’s also a Music Pass version where you can get ten rewards, including an alternate outfit for her. It costs 1400 V-Bucks.

Why is Hatsune Miku’s arrival in Fortnite such a big deal? She’s an old school online family. Before the metaverse, before artificial intelligence, there was Hatsune Miku, a part of the Vocaloid software that continued to perform holographic concerts for large audiences. She was “born” in 2007, when of course the Internet was a very different place than it is now, and here in 2025, millions of Fortnite players are happy for her arrival. This is durability.

Miku also fits in with the Japanese theme of this chapter/season, which also features movies like Godzilla and King Kong, Big Hero 6, Cyberpunk 2077, and other IPs from or influenced by that country. So Hatsune Miku fits the bill, and that’s also true for her double appearance at the Fortnite festival as a music star. Part of her appeal lies in her ability to create songs with her voice, which has reportedly been used in 100,000 unique songs (although these numbers are dated 2011). I’m really wondering if Fortnite might do a full gig with her at some point, but nothing like that has been announced.

With Fortnite still aiming to become a meta universe, a collaboration with one of its founders makes a lot of sense. We’ll see how her collection is received by the community, but what I’m seeing so far is very good in terms of her biggest fans.

Miku will cost you 4,600 V-Bucks to get everything, so she’s not a small investment. But I have a feeling she’ll make quite a bit of money for Epic by the time her run in the store is over. It’s unclear if and when it will return, so you may have to start shopping now.
