The company that runs the subscription simulator On Thursday, iRacing announced a deal with NASCAR to launch in 2025 “simulation game suitable for consoles”. This is the first indie game created by iRacing to date.
The announcement is accompanied elsewhere Motorsport Games, creators of the recent NASCAR series of console games, they would sell their rights to iRacing to create the titles of this franchise. Its last installment, NASCAR 21: Ignition, did not receive optimistic reviews after its release two years ago.
Since 2008, the core of the iRacing service has been a subscription-based simulator for PC gamers. Current platform iRacing already includes many of the core elements of the console game, including modern NASCAR cars, AI opponents and a full schedule of licensed tracks.. These assets should make it easier to develop a new game compared to other studios who have to do everything from scratch, but today’s expectations for a sports video game will make the final result on console very different from what iRacing players enjoy. The game should be closer to a traditional NASCAR title, with a full grid of cars and teams that resemble reality.
Although the iRacing team only worked with this simulator, The band originates from the former Papyrus Design studio. For more than a decade, they have created highly acclaimed games, the most recent being NASCAR Racing Season 2003. A small and passionate community still plays with what fans call NR2003, which is still considered the benchmark in the subgenre. If all goes well, this 2025 edition could be seen as its spiritual successor.
