After a failed first attempt… NASA has already set a launch date for the Artemis II space mission.
On Thursday, NASA successfully completed the so-called “wet dress rehearsal,” a full launch simulation without the rocket taking off.
During the test, teams loaded more than 700,000 gallons of ultra-cold fuel into the powerful SLS rocket, replicating every step of a real day.

At the beginning of the month, a leak of liquid hydrogen forced the first attempt to stop. This same area has already caused problems on Artemis I in 2022.
Although NASA is already confirming the launch date every minute, every detail in this mission could be crucial.
“If there are some conditions where the configuration changes and the rules say that the launch cannot happen that day, we will discuss the risk that this particular rule entails with the exact conditions of the day we will attempt a launch,” said Carlos García Galan of the Artemis II management team.

Artemis II will be the first flight of the crewed Orion spacecraft, whose 10-day mission will send a quartet of astronauts to orbit the moon on a round-trip flight of more than 600,000 miles.
Four crew members ventured farther from Earth than any Apollo crew between 1968 and 1972. Their trip also marked the first time since Apollo 17 that humans ventured beyond Earth orbit.
The crew members are already in quarantine before the mission.
