A new software update for the Nintendo Switch is out now, but the patch notes reveal that the company is breaking one of its unwritten rules; We leave it up to you to change it.
Nintendo upgrade Switch to version 17.00 with firmwareafter recent versions 16.0.0, 16.0.1, 16.0.2 and 16.0.3 in 2023. The patch notes don’t reveal much, but that’s because they don’t follow line an unwritten one that was always followed.
As with the above or the previous version 15.0.0, the changelog has always been quite substantial. This was what happened when it came time to move to round number updates.
But that’s not the case in this case, and as you’d expect in this case, the list of changes and new features is pretty short.
In fact, in his own Online Nintendo it reads: “Version 17.0.0 (Released October 10, 2023 – General system stability improvements to improve user experience)“.
Although it is a version change to another round number, it does not seem to change much, except for the overall stability of the console to improve the user experience.
Dataminer OatmealDome dove a little deeper; as usual: “Almost all system components have been updated. This is normal for big updates as the whole OS is rebuilt with the new SDK version“, comments:
In response, he notes: “Added new code error messages, several HOME menu messages were changed, and several GUI files were changed and/or time zone data was updated“.
A few changes were also made to the list of swear words, “thot” and “reeee” were banned in all languages. “Several offensive expressions have been blocked by censors in Japanese, and other offensive terms have been added in all languages“.
This time it has been changed in territories other than Japan, version 16.1.0, which was released in late August 2023 and which comes with various stability improvements.
A console with a Joy Con and games like Fortnite or Zelda are always getting better
Perhaps there are some hidden improvements as a safeguard against the appearance of Super Mario Bros. Wonder as Denuvo system on Nintendo Switch is known.
While we’re not sure about that either, we’re only leaving “possible” options for an update that doesn’t implement anything new.
