Former design director Saints Row He claimed that the franchise may have come to an end after the current owner of the IP ignored an offer that sought to revive the saga with a prequel.
As the developer explained in statements collected by Video Games Chronicle, it introduced a story-driven concept to the main events of the series, with the intention of recreating the elements that made the original franchise popular. However, he stated that he never received a response from the intellectual property owners, calling the situation “phantom” (completely ignored).
The designer noted that due to the lack of interest and communication, he believes that the brand currently has no active future. “I think the franchise is dead,” he commented, suggesting that there are no apparent plans to continue the saga after recent events.
The situation occurs after performing a hard reboot Saints Row released in 2022, a title that was met with mixed reviews by players and critics. Volition’s development studio was subsequently shut down in 2023 as part of the internal restructuring of the Embracer group, leaving the IP’s fate uncertain.
