Square Enix does not exclude the development of new ones Final Fantasy Tacticsbut he doesn’t believe that the story unfolded in the last major installment of the saga, Final Fantasy 16, is the most suitable basis, especially given the scale that the battles between the Aicons would require.
MIRA: Fallout comes to TV: Timeline of the video game saga from its first steps on PC to the present on Prime Video
Final Fantasy 16 will receive a new DLC, “The Rising Tide,” on April 18, which introduces a quest to rescue the missing Leviathan Dominant, Aicon Vada. Echoes of the Fallen arrived in December with another mission that invites you to investigate the smuggling of black crystals and leads to a new location, the Tower of Sages.
These two DLCs expand the adventures in Final Fantasy 16, but the main game’s story is finished, as the game’s director and producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed in an interview with The Gamer at the PAX East event.
Yoshida does not believe that this game should have a sequel that continues the story of Mysidia, and does not see it as the basis for a new Final Fantasy Tactics, as they understand that it would be too much for such a title.
The prospect of battle alone would make it impossible, as the director and producer commented. “How would we do Eikon vs. Eikon battles in this style?” he asks, referring to the Tactics grid game board on which the characters from both sides are placed and through which they move in their confrontation.
“If you have an Eikon, how many squares will the Eikon have? There are also more people, so what about the wait time between them?” in the load time link since it’s a turn-based strategy game.
Yoshida admits that “the series lends itself well to this type of storytelling” and that those behind Final Fantasy “love tactics,” so he added that “it’s probably time for us to create a new one.”
