Following the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Square Enix is kicking off a new round of promotions benefiting several creatives. We’ll tell you all the details below!
Square Enix is adding five new members to its ranks of executive directors who help shape the direction of the company and the games it creates. This new round of promotions, as several of the company’s employees begin to take corporate and executive directions, benefits Naoki Hamaguchi, who directed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Tomoya Asano, who produced the Octopath Traveler games.
They are joined by Takamasa Shiba, producer of Diofield Chronicle, Takeshi Nozue, CEO of Foamstars, and Takayuki Hamada.
The most striking case is Hamaguti, who was previously credited as a solo director for the first time for FF7 Rebirth, which went down very well. After working on the visual effects for Final Fantasy XII, the guy continued to grow and collaborate with many key contributors to the franchise, including Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura.
Since Nomura chose to simply be the creative director of the remake trilogy, Hamaguchi was in charge of both Rebirth and its possible sequel.
Asano, for his part, is also a key member of Square Enix. Through the Asano team, he is responsible for all the B-side games of developers who are neither Dragon Quest nor Final Fantasy, but are among the most famous niche players. Some of his best works include Bravely Default and Second, Triangle Strategy and the 2022 Live A Live remake.
