Last Friday afternoon during a presentation at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival held in Las Vegas over the weekend, Final Fantasy XVI game director and producer, Naoki Yoshidainvited to go on stage Phil Spencer to announce that Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to the Xbox Series next year. But this particular commitment wasn’t left alone, as the following guest behind the podium made the appropriate move: CEO of Square Enix, Takashi Kiru.
The three in attendance talked about expanding Final Fantasy to a wider range of players, and (more importantly) bringing more Square Enix games to Xbox in the future.
“Starting with today’s announcement that Final Fantasy XIV will be released in Spring 2024, and whenever possible, we plan to bring our games to Xbox for players to enjoy”
So Phil Spencer takes a new and important step in his plans to open up Xbox to Japanese development: “We look forward to building on the relationship we’ve established by bringing Final Fantasy XIV to Xbox and working closely with you and the Square Enix team on the game’s future “.
At this point, we don’t know if these are already published games or if we are talking about future games. But before we ring any bells, we should remember that Square Enix and Sony have some ongoing contracts for future games (such as Final Fantasy VII) to be released as PlayStation exclusives. For now, the path has been unlocked and it looks like peace is coming between Xbox and Square Enix, with an image that the official Twitter account called “a keepsake.”
