Ogerpon, a newly introduced Pokemon in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, Blue maskcan change not only forms and masks, but also attack animations.
Pokemon games are famous for recycling content. damn it Pokemon games recycle the same Pokémon noises from the original GameBoy title. Pokemon models and moves don’t have much variety either. If two different Pokemon can do the same move, chances are the attack animation will be the same.
Enter Ogerpon. This DLC-exclusive Pokemon turned a lot of heads when we learned that it can change masks and then take on a new form and a terastalized state. Well, as it turns out, Ogerpon not only changes his appearance, but also his attack animation.
The big feature here is Ogerpon’s Ivy Cudgel, which changes the color, shape, and type of damage it deals to opponents depending on the mask it’s wearing. However, other moves also have their own animations.
For example, Ogerpon’s Level 54 Power Whip move changes depending on the mask he’s wearing.
- When Ogerpon puts on the standard Teal mask, he will do a backflip and slam his whips into the ground.
- When the Cornerstone Mask is on, Ogerpon will also tap his vines, but will do a small jump.
- With the Wellspring mask, however, Ogerpon will do a quick spin and switch his vines to the side.
- With the fearsome Hearthlame Mask, Ogerpon will jump and direct his vines straight at the opponent.
While these various attack animations may seem minor, it’s nice to see the Pokémon Company putting more effort into making their Pokémon feel more alive. Hopefully we’ll see more unique animations in future updates and games.
Oh, and some new Pokémon sound effects would be nice too.
