Pokemon is one of the longest running anime franchises that has achieved a formula of staying relevant to the masses. The franchise has gone on to spawn wildly successful games, sequels, movies, and merchandise. However, the Pokémon anime will forever remain the fandom’s favorite medium to experience the adventures of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu to “catch them all!”
The anime has featured hundreds of Pokemon, and while veteran fans may consider Ash’s Pikachu to be the strongest of them all, several Pokemon have moved on. While most of the strongest Pokemon didn’t appear regularly on the show, these deity-like figures set the bar high.
10 Zekrom
Best wishes Pokémon
Zekrom is a powerful dragon-type Pokemon with electric powers. Zekrom appears as a black, humanoid-like dragon with fearsome wings, and a random burst of blue lightning usually heralds the Pokemon’s arrival. Zekra has made several appearances in the anime, starting with the first episode of Pokémon: Best Wishes, where the wild creature defeated Team Rocket in their attempt to steal Pikachu.
His attack was so powerful that Pikachu was unable to use his abilities. Zekrom has a Gen 5 legendary status and is definitely the type of Pokemon that no one would want to face. Besides a few appearances, Zekrom is also mentioned several times in the series.
9 Ho-oh
Pokémon – I Choose You!
Ho-Oh is the only Legendary Status Pokemon to have the privilege of appearing in the first episode Pokemon series that aired in 1997. Although the pokemon appeared for a short time, it must have meant that Ash was pure of heart, as it is only visible to those who are.
As for Ho-Oh’s abilities, it is the only known Pokemon that has the power of resurrection or recovery. Fire-type Pokemon can revive any Pokemon and even use a devastating fire attack called Holy Fire. Ho-O has a phoenix-like structure with a distinctive tail that leaves a burning trail.
8 Lugia
Movie Pokemon 2000
Known as the Master of the Trio of Legendary Birds, this powerful Pokémon is a Mythical Gen II Psychic Type creature with a massive dragon-like body. This legendary Pokemon first appeared in the second movie of the anime franchise, and thanks to its irresistible powers, it prefers to stay in the depths of the ocean alone. Lugia is a force to be reckoned with, as she can summon mighty storms with a single flap of her majestic wings.
Although the sea guardian is a gentle beast, it can wreak havoc against those who wish to harm sea creatures due to its destructive ability to control the sea. Aside from his aquatic abilities, Lugia can also communicate with humans telepathically, proving to be a sentient being like MewTwo.
7 celebrities
Pokemon 4 Ever
Celebi may not be as big as Lugia, but it is a Psychic Grass-type Mythical Pokemon with innate abilities on par with any other powerful Legendary Pokemon. The grass-like Pokémon is first introduced in the fourth Pokémon movie, where it escapes from a famous Pokémon hunter who wants to enslave Celebi to do his bidding.
Celebi is the only Pokemon that has the ability to travel through time other than the Time Deity. What Celebi lacks in strength, size, or offensive moves, it makes up for in its ability to not only travel to the past, present, and future, but also take other people and Pokemon with it. This sprite-like Pokemon can also heal, grow plantations, and fly.
6 Rayquaza
Pokémon – Destiny Deoxys
Rayquaza is a fearsome Dragon-type Legendary Pokemon that belongs to the Weather Trio. It has a snake-like body with razor-sharp teeth and claws. A Pokemon’s Mega form is even more aggressive than its natural form, holding immense control over speed and direction.
As Rayquaza is one of the three masters of the Weather Legendaries, he is in the atmosphere and tasked with protecting the earth from atmospheric threats. Viewers can imagine the immense power of this Pokemon by the fact that it fought alone against its fellow masters – Kyogre and Groudon, without using its full power.
5 Palkia and Dialog
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Palkia’s appearance resembles a mighty mecha dragon with celestial powers. The Creature Trio is an ancient force that includes Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina. Both Palkia and Dialga are creatures from the legend of Shino, created by the mighty Arceus. Palkia is a water dragon-type Pokemon that can warp and distort space, while also being able to alter reality and travel to different dimensions.
On the other hand, Dialga is also a god-like being that controls time. His undeniable abilities allow Dialga to manipulate time, including freezing or even altering it. Even with their destructive power, Palkia and Dialgia never seem to see eye to eye, and their confrontation once even leveled an entire city.
4 Giratina
Pokémon: Giratina & the Sky Warrior
The final member of the Legendary Trio of Creatures, Giratina is a mammoth-sized Pokemon with chaotic abilities that even surpass Dialog and Palkia. Giratina lives in the Warped World, which is an alternate dimension to the real world. This giant Ghost Dragon-type Pokemon has unfathomable abilities capable of causing destruction.
It was for this reason that Giratina was banished to the Warped World due to his uncontrollable rage. While Giratina mostly tends to his own business, he can use a nuke against anyone who disturbs his peace, just as Dialga and Palkia faced his wrath during the conflict.
3 Meow
Pokémon: The First Movie
Mew’s playful and cute appearance may mislead viewers, but it is without a doubt one of the most powerful Pokemon in the franchise. The fact that Mew’s feline body contains the DNA of every Pokemon that has ever existed is enough to confirm its powerful reputation. This allows this Legendary Psychic-type Pokemon to take on the moves of any Pokemon.
It was thought to be extinct until Mew first appeared to Ash and was considered the rarest Pokemon of all. Mew is not aggressive at all and rarely goes on the offensive, unlike many other powerful legendary Pokemon that possess a stunning aura. He looks more like a child than one of the most powerful Pokemon, and also seems only as pure of heart as Ash.
2 Mutu
Pokémon: The First Movie
Mewtwo is a man-made Pokemon that comes from a DNA strand of the original Mew. It is considered one of the most infamous and powerful Pokemon in the anime due to its enhanced mind control, telekinesis, and teleportation abilities.
This top level Pokemon has devastating abilities and due to the nature of the experiments it endured, Mewtwo became evil which only increased its power status. Psychic-type Pokemon can be considered an enhanced version of Mew, with higher intelligence and more battle-ready instincts. Mewtwo has also proven on several occasions that he possesses extreme physical endurance and an impressive ability to adapt.
1 Arceus
Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life
Arceus sits at the top of the pyramid of power and is considered the closest thing to a god than Pokemon. This celestial creature has many abilities that surpass any Pokemon, even legendary ones. When Arceus was born, he brought with him antimatter, time, and space, thus creating the Trio of Creation. It is considered to be one of the oldest Pokemon and the one that created the Shino/Ransei regions.
Like most god-like Pokemon, it can use telepathy to communicate and has an innate strength that surpasses all others. Arceus also has power and control over Legendary Pokemon and can be seen as the being at the center of the Pokemon universe.
