From now on, your word documents are automatically stored in OneDrive. This is an alarming idea

So far, when we kept the file we worked with Microsoft Word, we used a hard drive or SSD of our computers. However, this has only changed, and Microsoft has decided that your files are stored by default in your cloud. This is an idea that has its advantages, but also important disadvantages.

What happened. At an event dedicated to OneDrive and Copilot this week, Microsoft announced new features for its cloud storage. The Windows version of Windows will be stored directly to OneDrive, and the automatic savings of these documents will be activated automatically.

The marriage between Openai and Microsoft is sometimes collapsed. The problem is that both are still needed

Ok on one side. In Microsoft, they explained that they knew that “how unpleasant you can search important files on different devices and places.” This made them decide that instead of keeping directly on the device, they are stored in a cloud where they are always available and from any other computer and place. It’s a good idea for these documents to be ready to access other computers, but it has several major drawbacks. Also activation of automatic automatic Save will prevent us from reproducing work.

Privacy and Security. To start, downloading the default cloud can cause privacy and security problems. What happens if the document contains confidential or sensitive information? Do we really like to download this document into the cloud? If someone receives our OneDrive credentials – and this happens, especially when we re -use passwords – they can access all our documents and, if they have secret information, collect it.

Will they use these files to train their AI models? In the past, Microsoft’s support officials have made it clear that “our services provision clearly state that we do not use customer data to train our AI models.” Privacy and Microsoft AI website and website seem to confirm this, although they note that they use Copilot conversations – but not the documents themselves to improve these models.

This is not a backup, this is the only copy. Usually we resorted to OneDrive and other cloud storage services as ways to backup our documents and thus approach this philosophy “3-2-1”. With this type of feature, the files are stored directly in OneDrive, and although we have a local folder sync with OneDrive files on our computer, Microsoft cancels the process here: before we saved these files in another folder, and then we also loaded them on OneDrive when they wanted. Now a copy of OneDrive is the only one.

You can go back to business as usual. Microsoft will set this default option, but users can disable it so that the office application behaves in the traditional way and offers savings files on our PC or laptop. Probably, however, that many users will not even do it unless they know about it. They just think this can cause confusion.

What if I have no connection? It is true that okay that at this point we are working on documents when we have a connected computer, but it may not be. If this happens, we will not be able to save on OneDrive or have a car factory option while working with these cloud operations. What will happen then? It is likely that in this scenario Microsoft Word will store files temporarily on a computer storage system, but this detail is not specified.

Another way to encourage you to pay for OneDrive. Microsoft is obsessed with what you use (and pay) for your services. We have already seen them block the installation of Windows 11 with local accounts, and this automatic automotive in OneDrive also seeks to increase the use of OneDrive and Microsoft 365, two excellent solutions for end users and businesses.
