Like the father of a franchise Hello and the current head of the series Fate, Bungie has established itself as one of the most prominent companies in the video game industry. Unfortunately for him, he is now the protagonist of a social media controversy. The reason? The use of a very controversial term.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the US from September 15 to October 15. The development studio joined in the festivities and took to social media to announce the Latin@Bungie initiative, which aims to “help educate the Bungie community about Latino and Hispanic culture.”
“We look forward to sharing our initiatives with you in the coming months and years. We hope that through the efforts of Latin@Bungie, we will be able to have a positive impact on our global community, our company and our games,” the statement concludes.

Latin players attack Bungie for using Latinx
Although the development studio planned to connect with Latin American and Spanish-speaking audiences, the project’s disclosure backfired due to the use of a highly controversial word.
In the ad, the company used the term “Latinx,” which is intended to be a gender-neutral alternative for a Latin American man or woman. Dozens of players from Latin America expressed their displeasure and attacked the studio on social media. In responses, the community asserted that the word is offensive, despite the fact that it aims to be inclusive. In addition, they noted that it is only used in the United States.

“To call us Latinos (as I hate to pronounce the word) is very insulting, almost derogatory.” one person commented. “Please stop calling us Latinx. It’s blatantly offensive and not as inclusive as they think it is,” said another.
People pointed out that the company appeared to have deleted and hidden some of the messages from people expressing their anger. “Bungie refuses to admit that Latinx is essentially an insult. Instead, they hide comments or block anyone who mentions it.” – assured the user.

At the time of writing, Bungie has yet to comment on the controversy, and the post that sparked the community’s backlash is still circulating on the social network. It will be interesting to find out how this situation will develop in the coming hours. Will the company refuse and delete the message? Only time will tell
