Android Canary initiates a smooth transition to iPhone

Switch between devices iPhone and Android has always been a frustratingly complicated and time-consuming process that often left users with dead app data, incomplete media transfers, and lost messages. Fortunately, Apple and Google have teamed up to make the migration process smoother.

Earlier this year, Apple released documentation for its new AppMigrationKit framework, which will allow for smoother transfer of app data between iPhone and Android phones. Now, Google has introduced a similar solution in the latest version of Android Canary to speed up data transfer between Android and iOS devices.

According to 9to5Google, Android Canary 2512 (ZP11.251121.010) includes this new migration solution, but it’s still in development. Google and Apple have confirmed that the new transfer method will be available during device setup once it becomes available. However, the report does not reveal exactly how this feature works.

Android Authority adds that the Canary version includes a new “Copy data” button in the “Pair with iPhone or iPad” option in the Google services settings. This button is believed to trigger a new wireless data transfer method that connects an Android phone to an iPhone or iPad using a unique session ID and passcode for seamless data transfer.

As of now, neither Google nor Apple has confirmed when this new solution will be launched. This feature is likely to appear in future beta versions for Developers of ios 26 and Android before the launch, which is expected to shed more light on the porting process. Until then, users will have to follow Apple’s Move to iOS program and Google’s Switch Android program when switching from Android to iPhone and vice versa.

When this new data migration solution becomes available, switching between the Apple and Google ecosystems could be as easy as restoring from a backup on the same platform. This could dramatically reduce switching friction and give users the freedom to easily switch between iPhones and Android phones without worrying about what they might lose in the process.
