Instagram will allow you to customize the recommendation algorithm to set topics for which you want to see more or less suggestions in the “Reels” section, for example, tools that social networks such as TikTok and Pinterest already offer.
The Meta-owned social network will use artificial intelligence (AI) to help personalize its recommendation algorithm based on topics of interest to the user.

This adjustment can be made in “Your Algorithm”, where users will find a series of topics that the AI has collected from their activities (sports, horror movies, painting, pop music…) to choose the ones they want to see more often, or exclude the ones they want to see less often.
This algorithm setting will first affect the Bubbles tab. “Thanks to artificial intelligence, you can now more easily see and customize the topics that make up your ‘Reels’, making recommendations even more tailored to you,” the company wrote in its blog.
In recent months, other social networks have implemented tools to adjust the content that appears in recommendations. One is Pinterest, which allows you to deactivate subject categories in which users want to see less AI content, such as beauty, fashion or art.
In the case of TikTok, ByteDance announced a new control that will be added to the theme management, which is presented as a panel that the user can move to the left to see less AI content or to the right to see more.
Meta is also working on customizing the Threads feed. In this case, the algorithm can be adjusted with the command “Dear Something” and a request to see more or less content on a certain topic, for example, basketball or fashion.
