Billionaire Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company successfully launched the New Glenn rocket on November 13, carrying the twin spacecraft of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Mars.
It should be noted that this is the first time that the company has successfully carried out the technique of landing its fuel for reuse, which is an important achievement in the field of space rockets.
The launch took place on November 13 at 15:33 US time (about 3 a.m. on November 14 Vietnam time) from the launch center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The New Glenn rocket lifted off from the launch pad after a day of delays due to adverse weather conditions both on Earth and in space.
When the main stage of the New Glenn rocket successfully separated and returned to the soft ground on a floating platform at sea, it was also the first time that Blue Origin successfully implemented this important technique for reuse, reducing many costs and contributing to environmental protection.
Previously, only billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX company used this technique with orbital rockets.
Blue Origin’s new achievement further heightens the competition between the two private space companies of the two famous billionaires, especially as NASA recently opened bidding for its lunar mission.
The 98-meter-tall New Glenn rocket is tasked with sending NASA’s twin ESCAPADE spacecraft to Mars on a historic mission to study the Red Planet’s climate for future human exploration.
NASA solar physicist Joseph Westlake said the twin Blue and Gold spacecraft will seek a safe parking orbit to conduct space weather measurements.
Then, when the planets reach a perfect alignment in the fall of 2026, the two spacecraft will get a boost from Earth’s gravity to begin their journey to Mars with an expected arrival date of 2027.
Previously, the New Glenn rocket made its first launch in January 2025, which also marked a major success in delivering large payloads into orbit.
However, in this first launch, the rocket’s main booster was lost during landing.
