Our FIFA for life is no longer our FIFA for life. More precisely, yes, but with a different name. Electronic Arts announced the change over a year ago, and a few days ago EA Sports FC 24 finally hit stores, a title that many expected to change a lot more things than the name, and that it would do so in a profound way. He didn’t do it too much and it caused an uproar among the players and fans of the title.
Review of the bombing. It currently has a user rating of 2.4 out of 10 on Metacritic – based on 54 reviews, not too many – while Media Analyst has a rating of 76 out of 100. Steam has a lot more reviews, and currently with 3,782 reviews, 55 % are positive according to this platform. While the criticism doesn’t seem as strong in the latter case, the percentage still seems low for a game of this magnitude.

Everything as always. The biggest source of criticism is the fact that users complain about the slight differences between EA Sports FC 24 and FIFA 23, last year’s title. In addition, players criticize the presence of errors during the game, such as physical errors, problems with artificial intelligence or unrealistic situations during matches.
Disappointing physical sales. As VGC revealed, although EA Sports FC 24 was the second-best-selling title of the year in the UK – beaten by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – its physical sales were 30% lower than those At the moment I was wearing ” FIFA 23″. Among the reasons explain analyst Chris Dring, there is a name change that may have confused many users. There was probably another factor: the digital format is more relevant than last year, so these sales could compensate for the drop in the physical format.
Criticism comes from afar. Over the years, every new installment of the old FIFA has been criticized with the frequent words “it’s the same as last year”, but at least in our analysis of “FIFA 23” at Xataka, it seemed to us that the jump was noticeable compared to the year before. However, this game also suffered review of the bombing and on Metacritic it received a score of 2.5, which has remained until this year. Complaints were also directed at its focus on microtransactions and pay-to-win mechanics, which had already given the giant huge problems with Star Wars: Battlefront II.
Real or imagined influence. It is unclear whether this kind of mass criticism has any real impact on the sales and success of video games and other digital products. There is a real problem here, because there is no obstacle to the publication of these negative reviews, and the case of Goodreads and its literary reviews was famous at the time. Conversely, we have the challenges faced by, for example, Amazon, which is trying to increase the positioning of certain products.
Does it matter what people say about you? In the world of video games, such a phenomenon review of the bombing They are becoming more and more frequent: it happened recently with Starfield, but not long after we found out how Bethesda announced that 10 million people played this video game. The number is impressive, although it’s true that it’s availability on Game Pass helps. And yet, it doesn’t seem that these attacks by user communities have a particularly negative effect on this or other games.
