Today, Apple is rolling out hypertension alerts on the Apple Watch for users in select countries in Asia, Oceania, South America, and the Middle East. Here are the details.
Hypertension notifications are now available in 170 regions
When Apple announced the hypertension notification feature as part of watchOS 26 last year, the company said it “expects to notify more than 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension in the first year.”
Apple’s function works like this:
Hypertension notifications on the Apple Watch use data from the optical heart sensor to analyze how the wearer’s blood vessels respond to the heartbeat. The algorithm runs passively in the background, looking at data over a 30-day period and notifying users when it detects persistent signs of hypertension. These notifications give users effective information about their health related to this widespread disease, just by wearing Apple Watch, so they can start making life-saving behavior changes or start treatment to reduce the risk of serious long-term health problems.
At the time, the feature was still awaiting FDA approval, as well as regulatory approval in other regions.
And while Apple said at the time that it expected to roll out hypertension notifications to more than 150 countries and regions immediately, the company also continued to work on expanding availability.
Last December, Apple launched the feature for users in the United Arab Emirates. Today, as you can see MacRumorsSeven additional countries also receive it, including:
- Australia
- Brazil
- Colombia
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- South Korea
- there
With today’s additions, the future is now available to Apple Watch users in 170 countries and regions.
