Juliet Shulkin: “It’s easier to feel the metauniverse than to explain it”

A metauniverse can be understood as “a universe beyond what is currently known”. What is it specifically? What is it for? What should you contribute?
Actions He talked about it with specialist Julieta Shchulkina, a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism, distributor of new technologies. In addition, she is the author of the book “Vuelta por el metaverso”, where she offers readers a description of the phenomena associated with this “parallel” reality.

– What is the metauniverse?
At the moment, it is still difficult to give a definitive definition of the metauniverse. However, I can say that it is just the internet. This is the next stage in the evolution of the Internet, which involves an additional level of immersion compared to what we know today.
On the other hand, the industry is agreeing on a definition exactly two years after Facebook Inc changed its name to Meta, and we started hearing the word metaverse everywhere.
The confusion is generated because it may have been understood that the meta-universe, in this short time, required virtual reality. It’s actually a 3D web with that extra level of immersion that involves new interfaces, but it will also be able to live in a browser tab.
The article published in Wired written by Eric Ravenscroft, points out that 90% of the time if we replace the word cyberspace with the metaverse, it will mean pretty much the same thing. Thus, while the metaverse requires new codes, it is no more and no less than the Internet.

– Are there many metauniverses?
According to Accenture, which has studied the topic extensively, last year there were 33 metaverses such as Fortnite, Decentralized in AltSpaceVR. The latter was what the companies used to work for. Of the 33 that existed last year, many have started to disappear or even fail to grow at the accelerated pace expected.
A great example of a metaverse is the one mentioned Decentralized, an open map where you can make your own avatar, but it’s much more than that. A metaverse is not synonymous with a virtual world, because otherwise any person or organization could say they have a metaverse, which is what happened last year.
For a metaverse to exist, there must be social interaction, just like the Internet. video game platforms Roblox in Minecraft They are good examples of the metaverse because they have an added layer of virtual immersion that teenagers, boys and girls know very well. It’s not that the metaverse is a video game, but that it has this dynamic: often teenagers enter the game, but not only to play, but also to communicate with their friends, to live in a virtual space.
It’s a lot easier to experience than to understand the concept, because if you ask someone to explain the Internet, it’s likely that each person you ask will say something different. It seems to me that the metaverse has something of that. It’s hard to explain because it’s an aspiration. We are closer to living in this immersive digital reality from a device like a mobile phone or computer than we are from viewing virtual reality.

– What is its relationship with the modern world of work?
The metaverse is still desirable. While many companies are starting to experiment, work, hold meetings and other experiences virtually, it’s not commonplace. I guess it’s a little easier for the younger generation. However, it makes sense to overcome the barrier of 2D video calls. And with generative artificial intelligence, it seems to me that the concept of a metaverse or a new virtuality is justified, because this way of creating content, of living our productivity at work is connected to the metaverse.

– What tasks can never be achieved
metaverse?
Jobs that are not available online today. This can be answered with another question: what jobs will not be replaced by artificial intelligence?
