Rumors about this successor seem to be dying down. We recently received details about the date and additional technical details of this console and a supposed hint in the latest Nintendo Direct, and now we continue to receive news about the successor of the Nintendo Switch. In this case, it focused on the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 and revealed alleged details about storage space and more. We knew then that this Switch 2 would already have a release date according to the latest rumours, and now more details are available.
This time the information comes from Nintendo’s president and focuses on the Switch 2, after it was known that Far Cry 7 would be launched and another from Capcom was on the way. In a recent meeting with Japanese media outlet Nikkei, Shuntaro Furukawa offered these interesting statements, hinting that the Nintendo Switch will continue to receive games until 2025:
—How would you apply the “spirit of originality” to the Switch’s successor?
Furukawa: I can’t speak on a specific topic. We are constantly researching and developing hardware, but for the fiscal year ending March 2024, we are focused on expanding the Nintendo Switch business. The biggest hurdle at any time, beyond just the Next Console, is knowing if we can deliver what customers really want.
—Is it possible to extend the life cycle of the Switch?
Furukawa: We are still working on Nintendo Switch software for the fiscal year ending March 2025. Momentum will continue to grow the Switch business. In the fiscal year ending in March 2024, we will maintain the Zelda momentum and move into the holiday sales season. In terms of hardware, we will maximize demand not only for new purchases, but also for second units and replacements.
— Why is the number of internal developers increasing?
Furukawa: Game development is becoming more and more complex. The development resources required for a single piece of software continue to increase, so it is critical to strengthen the development organization. More than simply increasing the number of employees, we need to be able to develop software that meets Nintendo’s expectations. To do this, we decided that instead of allocating resources outside the company, we needed to strengthen our internal development resources that deeply understand Nintendo’s creative DNA and brand.
We do not reject the use of M&A (mergers and acquisitions). However, bringing in an organization that doesn’t understand Nintendo’s creative approach may not produce the expected results. On the other hand, for companies with a similar development focus, we can create various partnerships with them, not limited to mergers and acquisitions.
Very relevant statements. As for the rumored successor to the Nintendo Switch console, VGC has offered more details on the date, handheld mode, cartridges and more. Then Nintendo’s president talked about it.
We also had rumors that it would be shown at Gamescom, and it was later confirmed that it was shown there, but behind closed doors. Finally, we got another rumor that hinted at backwards compatibility, a camera, and more, as well as another that showed off Breath of the Wild and another that compared it to PS5 and Xbox One graphics.
What do you think about the information? You can share it in the comments. We’ll be on the lookout for more details. In the meantime, you can take a look at what we think is important in Nintendo Switch 2. Don’t miss it!
