The first Cygnus XL ship from the Northrop Grumman Corporation was successfully on board Falcon 9 Spacex missiles from a space launch complex at Cape Canaveral Space Station, in Florida, as part of the NASA’s commercial missions at the International Space Station (ISS).
A mission called NG-23, This means introductory flight of Cygnus XL, an enlarged version of a car that offers 33% more load capacity compared to the previous model. On this occasion, it transports more than 11,000 pounds of equipment, scientific experiments and materials for the crew of space stations.
Since its first launch in 2013, Cygnus ships have delivered more than 71,000 kilograms (approximately 148,000 pounds) downloading to the United States, consolidating its role as a key site in the station logistics.
Improved power and additional services
Cygnus XL includes several components made by Northrop Grumman, including planes, energy modules, wiring sets, solar batteries Ultraflex, vehicles structures, motor controls and thermal control systems. In addition, since 2022, these ships have provided reboot services to help the station maintain their orbit with the possibility of expanding this support in future NASA needs.
