What happened in Pokémon Horizons Episode #31?

Pokemon Horizons: Toedscruel boards an airship.

Pokémon Horizons episode #31 featured a Lapras that once belonged to the Ancient Adventurer Lucius. He is first shown escorting ships through thick fog, giving the impression of a mythical savior. However, as Frida and the airship crew land in the waters near where Lapras was last reported, Liko and Roy discover that the ship is being attacked by ground-based Pokémon while in deep fog. Frida passes through the fog again, this time with cargo crates on deck that lure out Pokemon. As the fog clears, the team catches these Pokemon pirates red-handed, who apparently pulled off a scam using Lapras, shocking everyone with Lapras’ true nature.

Pokémon Horizons Episode #32 Trying to reason with Lapras

Pokemon Horizons: Lapras Revealed.

Lapras turned out to be completely different than Liko and Roy expected, but it was still one of the Ancient Adventurer’s Pokemon and they needed his help. However, Lapras has a team of Pokémon Pirates ready to defend against the airship, so getting him to listen won’t be easy. With the help of Terrapagos, Liko and Roy will try to get to Lapras and remind him of his former companions, Lucius’ other Pokemon. In the preview, Terapagos gains energy and the ancient Poké Balls glow in resonance with him, suggesting that he may assume his true form in the anime for the first time.

Lucius Lapras’s behavior proves that not all Pokemon of the same species are created equal; most Lapras have a reputation for being kind, gentle creatures, but this Lapras is huge, scarred, and quite vicious looking. It’s certainly an unexpected turn from Pokemon anime that portray Pokemon in a completely different way than usual. However, Lapras probably has his reasons for resorting to this kind of scam, so it’s worth listening to find out why he got involved in all of this. Pokémon Horizons proved the dangers of speculating with this Lapras, so hopefully Liko and Roy can appreciate Lapras for what it is once they know the truth.

    Summary:
Known as Pocket Monsters in Japan, the Pokemon multimedia franchise is a collaboration between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures that spans over twenty-five years. Created by Satoshi Tajiri along with Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, Pokemon takes place in fictional worlds where humans live alongside domesticated creatures known as Pokemon. The people who catch, raise and battle them are known as Pokemon trainers. They go on long journeys across their continents to raise their Pokemon with the ultimate goal of competing in tournaments to become the champion. Pokemon spans several huge properties, from a long-running animated series, to a successful trading card game, to the medium that started it all, video games. Additionally, Pokemon started the “two games” trend where two versions of the game were released and included different Pokemon/features between versions, encouraging players to meet others and trade so they could “catch them all”.
