What is Pokemon Horizons?
Pokemon Horizons, which is known as Pocket Monsters: Liko and Roy’s Departure and Pocket Monsters: The Sparkling of Terapagos in Japan. The series will focus on two new characters, Liko and Roy, who are members of the Rising Volt Tacklers. The Rising Volt Tacklers are led by Frida and Captain Pikachu. Friede is a pokemon professor as well as a commander. The Rising Volt Tacklers explore the lands Pokemon Horizons in an airship called Brave Olivine. Other members include the Eagle mechanic and their Pokemon, Metagross. There’s Murdoch, a skilled cook, with his Pokemon Rocroft, Molly, a healer accompanied by Chancey, known for feeding Pokemon with Nurse Joy in previous Pokemon iterations, and Ludlow, an elderly fisherman.
The antagonists are called Explorers. The leader of the Explorers is Gibeon – who has not yet been seen. Humber is Gibeon’s advisor and assistant and receives information from the other members, including Ametio with his partner Pokémon Cerulean, Zirk and Raidon, Onia and Goldak, Spinel, Onyx and Agate. The researchers are now on a mission to track down the Rising Volt Tacklers and find Liko and her pendant.
There are many firsts in this series. For the first time in Pokemon anime history, Pokemon Horizons will feature an all-new cast of characters, meaning it’s the first game that won’t feature Ash Ketchum as the main character. Also, while Pikachu will be a Pokémon partner for an important character, this will be the first time he won’t be the main character. Also, with Explorers, it’s the first time the Team Rocket trio won’t be antagonists. Pokemon Horizons is also the first where none of the main characters are involved in a major competition. The series also seems to have a more linear story.
Who is Liko?
Liko is a novice Pokemon trainer and student at Indigo Academy in the Kanto region. She got her Pokemon partner, Spriggatite, from her roommate Ann. Sprigatito is a Grass-type Pokemon that evolves into Floragato and then Meowscarada. Liko is from Caba Pok in Paldea, as seen in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. She receives a mysterious pendant from her grandmother, which turns out to be a sleeping Terrapagos. Terapagos first appeared in The Indigo Disk, for which he was the game’s mascot. The legendary Pokemon also appears in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.
Who is Roy?
Roy is also a Pokemon trainer. He lives on a remote island in the Kanto region and attends an online school. Fuecoco is his Pokemon partner. Fuecoco is a Fire-type Pokemon that evolves into Crocalor and Skeledirge. He has a mysterious vintage pokeball that his grandfather gave him.
What we know so far
The English dub of Pokemon Horizons is scheduled to be released in the United States on Netflix on February 23, 2024. Back in July of this year, the anime was previewed at San Diego Comic-Con. Although the anime has yet to air in the US, fans in Japan have been watching it since April. In addition, the first six episodes of the English dub will be released on 1 December 2023 in the UK on the BBC iPlayer streaming platform and linearly on CBBC, as announced on Pokemon UK’s official Twitter page.
Trailer
The new trailer was released on November 29 on the official YouTube channel Pokemon. This is the first trailer released for the English dub. The trailer is just over a minute long and we are introduced to Liko, Roy and Professor Friede. We also get a look at the Rising Volt Tacklers, as well as some of The Explorers and their Pokemon, including Ceruledge Amethio. The standout Pokemon featured in the trailer is the rare Shiny Pokemon – Black Rayquaza, also known as Shiny Mega Rayquaza. The original green Rayquaza was originally seen in Destiny Deoxys. He battled Deoxys, believing that he had invaded the Sky Pokemon’s territory when Deoxys was looking for his friend, another Deoxys. While the trailer did not specify what role Rayquaza would play, it was stated that she is extremely important to the overall story.
The cast
Pokemon Horizons looks like a star lineup. Some of the confirmed voice actors include Alejandro Reynos (Final Fantasy Origin, The Winx Club) as Liko and Anjali Kunapaneni (Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail) as Roy. Crispin Freeman will voice Professor Friede. Freeman played famous characters such as Gyomei Himejima from Demon Slayer and Itachi Uchiha from Naruto. Zeno Robinson will play Rotom Phone – an electronic device – and Roy’s Pokémon partner – Fuecoco. Robinson is well known as the voice of many characters such as Genya from Demon Slayer, Hawkeye in My Hero Academia, Gamma 2 in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vanitas in The Case Study of Vanitas, Zenon Zogratis in Black Clover, Garfiel Misura in Re: Zero and Go in different Pokemon series.

While fans may still be sad to see their favorite all-time coach of 10 years go, Pokemon Horizon appears to be a promising transition full of adventure, mystery and fun. The new characters, Liko and Roy, are looking for new stories, and thanks to the linear storyline, fans can get to know the characters and their backstories and build a different connection. first of all Pokemon Horizons will feature new Pokemon that have never been revealed before, expanding the beloved world of pocket monsters for generations to come to enjoy.
