- The rugged mobile NAS combines touch control with storage and battery backup
- UnifyDrive UP6 is designed for photographers who need fast local media transfer.
- Built-in CBS and offline mode support field work with files
A rugged mobile NAS with a built-in tablet-style interface has finally gone on sale after being announced a year ago at CES 2025.
At $1,599, the UnifiedDrive UP6 isn’t cheap, but it combines portable flash storage, networking, battery backup, and on-device processing into a single drive.
Compact and weighing around 1300g without a protective case, the UP6 is primarily designed for photographers and videographers who need fast local backup and file management at any time.
Some functions are “fast”.
The UP6 has a built-in 6-inch touchscreen that serves as the primary interface for managing files, checking system status, and previewing content without connecting to another device.
UP6 is based on Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor with 14-core CPU, 7-core integrated GPU and 11 TOPS NPU. It lets you perform tasks like file organization and AI-powered search right on your device.
UnifyDrive ships the UP6 with 16GB of DDR5 memory. The system supports up to 96GB of memory, although you’ll have to buy and install additional memory yourself, and given the current price of RAM, that’ll add a bit more to the price.
Storage is entirely flash-based, and the chassis supports six PCIe 4.0 M.2 solid-state drives, allowing for a maximum capacity of 48TB depending on the drive selected.
Integrated screens are not limited to system controls. It can be used to preview photos and videos, monitor backups and do basic editing right on the device.
I’m particularly interested in the two upcoming features identified as upcoming. One allows users to display a slideshow of selected photos on the screen while the system is idle, while the other supports streaming, previewing, transferring and backing up media directly to the device.
The UP6 includes a built-in UPS that provides up to two hours of operation. The system can automatically shut down to reduce the risk of data loss during power outages.
Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10GbE Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 2.1 and USB ports. External GPU support is available via Thunderbolt.
The device can also work in access point (AP) mode, creating a local network for sharing files when external Wi-Fi is not available.
The UnifyDrive UP6 is available for purchase now with free shipping, worldwide shipping, a 2-year warranty, and 30-day returns.
