The last few years have been rough for Sonos. But the company just unveiled its first hardware product in 2024: the Amp Multi. Here are the details.
The Amp Multi is Sonos’ first new hardware since 2024
If you’ve been following Sonos for a while, you’ll know that the company has had plenty of reasons to stay out of the spotlight lately.
2024 saw an overhaul of the Sonos app that was very poorly received. This failed app launch, combined with the poor reception of Sonos’ flagship Ace product, eventually led to the replacement of Sonos’ CEO.
Then last year, the new CEO canceled what had been planned as a major hardware change: an Apple TV 4K competitor. Some of the Sonos Roam speakers have also started to overheat and partially melt.
Which brings us to 2026, where Sonos hopes to change things. And the first hardware product in over a year was just announced: the Amp Multi.

Designed for professional installations, the Amp Multi provides unprecedented multi-zone flexibility with GaN and PFFB technologies to completely redefine what an 8-channel amplifier can do.
The Amp Multi delivers 8 x 125W of power in four zones, using advanced GaN technology and post-filter feedback (PFFB) for greater efficiency, clarity and control. With ProTune, installers can optimize the sound of any low-impedance passive speaker, tailoring performance to location and room acoustics. ProTune offers a full range of manual controls, including a 10-band parametric EQ, as well as adjustable gain and delay shifts, allowing for a truly customized sound. Its innovative chassis design improves thermal performance, while recessed connectors, status LEDs, and optimized 2U cabinet mounting simplify setup and provide reliable fanless cooling.
It is clear that the Amp Multi is not designed for mass market success. But perhaps that makes it a good first product to start putting the company’s recent troubles behind it.
