The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Ultimania book was released today in Japan, and as usual, there are some comments from the development team about the game’s story.
Ultimania is a series of official books that provide a very comprehensive guide to the game as well as some commentary from the development team on various topics. User ‘@aitaikimochi‘ made a selection.
First, part 3’s main story is said to have already been completed, and Testuya Nomura (Creative Director) believes that dialogue recordings should happen soon.
Nomura says that Yoshinori Kitase, the producer Final Fantasy, offered something very important to include in the third game that the original didn’t have. Now Nomura is thinking about how to do it. If successful, he’s sure fans will be happy.
Kitase hopes that part 3 doesn’t have to be delayed. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth it had an effective development because it kept the same team and part 3 will have the same situation. He adds that Rebirth took three years to complete and the next game should take place in the same period. In other words, the launch should take place in 2027 – exactly that year Final Fantasy VII is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Kitase also mentions that he hopes for the world Final Fantasy VII keep getting stories after the third game, but for now the focus is on completing the story. He also mentions that this third project is probably the last of his career that he is associated with FFVII due to his age.
Another curiosity Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would be named Final Fantasy VII Reunionbut the word was used in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. So it definitely won’t be the title of part 3.

Parallel worlds in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Ultimania” confirms that there are at least six different worlds based on Stamp’s appearance, possibly also unknown where Zack appears in the church at the end of the game. In other words, actually seven worlds.
Here is a summary of the world information:
- Zack’s final battle against the Shinra soldiers takes place in a world different from the one we know;
- The worlds are distinguished by the appearance of the dog Stamp;
- Sephiroth knows about these worlds and tries to prolong the life of the planet;
- The white matter that Aerith has in the current world was supposed to fight the meteors, but it has lost its power and is transparent;
- Aerith from another world entrusts her white substance to Cloud so that he can deliver it to Aerith in the present world;
- Depending on Zak’s choice, the worlds are divided;
- There are currently six different worlds based on different dogs;
- The world where Zack last appeared in the church doesn’t have Stamp the dog, so… where is that world?
- Sephiroth’s existence can actually transcend worlds and exist in multiple worlds at the same time.
- When Zack arrives to help Cloud fight Sephiroth, they both exist in a moment where two worlds converge.
- Also, when Zack, Cloud, and the other party members fight Sephiroth Reborn, even though they are supposed to exist in different worlds, they are still fighting the same entity.
- Kazushige Nojima (writer) confirms that the game does have multiple worlds, and that aspect of the story, along with the mystery surrounding Erith’s white matter, will become clear in FF7 Remake Part 3.
- In fact, he says he’s almost finished writing the main script for Part 3, and that there will be a whirlwind of events leading up to the finale, but he hopes everyone is looking forward to it.
- This interview was done on February 2, 2024, so Nojima must have already finished the main story.
Aerith
- It is difficult to say whether she lives or dies.
- Based on what we see, this can lead to different interpretations.
- However, what is confirmed is that the team sees something completely different than Cloud.
- The group fights Jenova at maximum limit due to anger, except for Cloud, and Barret even says that this is a battle of woe for her.
- There’s a scene where Cloud is holding Aerith and saying something, but it’s drowned out by the noise, so we don’t know what they said.
- After the battle in the Forgotten Capital, Aerith appears next to Cloud, but Tifa doesn’t see her.
- The group appears to be on the shores of a lake where Aerith was supposed to be in the original game.
- It is not known how or where Aerith came to aid Cloud in his final showdown with Sephiroth.
- Is Aerith really alive at the end? Or is she from Lifestream? Or is she just a hallucination created by the Cloud? At the moment we don’t know.
- The world where Zack is alive, or the world where Aerith and Cloud appeared in the slums of Sector 5, has a crack in the sky, does this mean the end of the world, or…?
- He mentions that many wanted Aerith to avoid this fate in the OG to FF7 Rebirthso the team completed the task, resulting in Cloud successfully escaping Sephiroth.
- There is a question why every time Cloud gets a headache from the noise he sees random memories? Nomura says there are a lot of elements involved, but for now all he can say is that it reflects Cloud’s state of mind (those flashback scenes).
- Also note that in the following Q&A, Nomura says that Cloud and Zack’s fight shows that there are two worlds at once, and Sephiroth’s existence can span multiple worlds, so everything is relative and up to interpretation.
Glen Lodbroke
Glenn Lodbroke is 38 years old and apparently botched a mission 15 years ago and abandoned Shinra. He works with Viceroy “Sarruf” in Wutai.
Nomura says in Ultimania that Glen Lodbroke was originally a character created for the story FF7 Rebirthwho later became the main character FF7 Someday Crisis d The first soldier.
Just who Glenn and the mysterious “Sarruff” are will be revealed in Part 3.
Yuffie
Nomura specifically asked the team to add Yuffie’s “first love” story to their meeting scene in the golden saucer.
He explains that when he first saw the remastered scene where Yuffie meets Zack for the first time in Crisis Core FF7 Reunion, he wanted that moment to leave an impression on his memories. So he asked the team to include this little tidbit about his “first love.”
Angel
The interviewer asks why there was one feather at the beginning of the trip.
Nomura laughs and says that maybe it has something to do with “quote and unquote angel”, suggesting Angel, Zack’s teacher.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3
Hamaguti says in FF7 Rebirth Ultimania that Part 3 should cover parts related to the original game, such as the Icicle Inn and the North Crater, weapon awakening, airship flight, etc.
However, he wonders how exactly to portray the freedom of flying a plane in a game with so much graphical detail.
He hopes that he can bring something amazing to the experience, similar to how Part 1 and Part 2 also introduced new and interesting possibilities.
