The Zelda maker has responded to fans missing more linearity in the franchise’s games

We have some very interesting announcements about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, this time related to linearity in the franchise.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch

There seem to be fans who miss more linear games after the freedom offered by Breath of the Wild and its sequels. Eiji AonumaZelda producer, talked about this topic in an interview with IGN.

He emphasized that we often long for what we don’t have and tend to see it as more attractive. Consider that modern Zelda games, while offering freedom, there is still a way to be drawn, it happens that the player can choose how to go about it. Aonuma reflected on the nostalgia and desire to return to a more limited structure, acknowledging the prospect, though he questions why a more limited experience would be preferable given the freedom the current offers many possibilities for all types of players.

We leave you with his words:

Well, I think we as humans have a tendency to want what we don’t have right now, and there’s a mentality that we like what we don’t have. But I also think that with the freedom that players have been given in the last few games in this series… there’s still a set path, it’s just a path that they’ve chosen. So I think that’s what I like to think about the current games that we’re making.

But it’s also interesting when I hear people say things like that, because I wonder, “Why would you want to go back to the type of game where you’re more limited in the types of things or the ways you can play?” But I understand that we have a desire for nostalgia, and so I can understand it from that point of view as well.
