PlayStation 2 can run Windows 95, but is it only for the sake of pleasure?

Launch Windows 95 on PlayStation 2 is a big deal because the game console has never been designed to launch standard PC operating systems. The part of the reason why it cannot launch the PC operating systems is related to the MIPS PlayStation 2 processor, which is completely different from the X86 Windows 95 processors, was designed to work.

That is why the hacker could not run Windows 95 on the PlayStation 2 console. Instead, Metrabyte used the X86 emulator called Bochs to achieve the feat (via Hackaday). Bochs does exactly what the Sony consoles lack: it makes PlayStation 2 act as a computer that can handle X86 instructions. Previously, the hacker tried several other methods, but boxing brought the best result.

Overall it took 14 hours to install Windows 95 on PlayStation 2. And it clearly shows that this is not impatient. Given this, not everyone will like what they see after passing all these steps. Based on what we saw in the Metabyte project, Windows 95 on PlayStation 2 is not a smooth experience. Actually it’s far from it.

According to the video below, move through different parts of Windows 95, because the mouse is unsuitable. This way, it will take a lot of time and patience to use the keyboard for navigation. However, since the mouse pointer appears in the middle of the screen and you can’t move it, no way to Windows 95 PlayStation 2 could not draw anything in the Paint app.

However, as the keyboard availability is available, you can save an empty image. In another area, this is not possible in another area where most retro -calculating projects – launched death. So the restrictions are such that you wouldn’t want to work on Windows 95 for a long time, even for the sake of pleasure, but it’s still achievement.
