“Magic is indestructible” is the official tagline Honor Magic8 Litea non-trivial feature for a product with good looks and great features. It’s not a rugged phone, but its build features are very close to this type of product without being heavy and bulky. The aim is to stand out in the increasingly undifferentiated mid-range phone segment by offering marketing useful for the everyday user.
Honor chose a certain path: not to look for pure power or a first-class camera, but to create smartphone which constitutes a trust agreement with the user. A device that works when it rains, when it’s dropped, when it’s dented, and at the end of the day it still has enough battery to last another 24 hours or even more.
Design
Design a Magic8 Lite It follows Honor’s philosophy of recent years: clean lines, slightly rounded edges and a body that, without being luxurious, creates a tangible feeling of durability. The weight remains small (189 grams), despite the capacious battery, and the ergonomics convince thanks to the good balance. The reduced thickness, just 7.6 millimeters, is also great.
But the real star of the product is not visible to the naked eye: the Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop technology, a six-layer structure that combines a non-Newtonian fluid between the walls of the case. This material, which turns from liquid to solid in response to impacts, absorbs inertial forces during the fall. Combined with the new ultra-durable tempered glass with Gorilla Glass 3 that protects the screen, the result is smartphone with SGS Triple Resistant Premium Performance certification: the first certification in the industry to guarantee full protection against drops, water and dust at the same time.
Claimed tests show resistance to drops from a height of up to 2.5 meters onto ten different types of surfaces, including rocks and stones. We’ve tested it in real-world conditions with drops, mud, sand and even jam, and we can confirm that the phone is really tough. That doesn’t mean it’s indestructible; We found a few dents on the case and rear camera unit, but overall it’s a really solid product.
