Jace with the dedicated “Silly Tech” Metrabyte YouTube Metrabyte shared a video that documented its attempts to get Windows 95 and start and run on Sony PlayStation 2. Short, Windows 95 eventually gave attempts to make it boot, and it could be overcome in standard applications, but it was over. Jace can get Doom.
Of course, both of these platforms have been in the tooth in 2025 for a very long time. Windows 95 arrived in 1995, and PS2 debuted in 2000. With your preference for half -timing age, you can expect PS2 to sail through Windows 95 and Doom Challenge. Indeed, it may have, but the X86’s hackers to work on the MIPS Sony car, as well as the famous Windows 95 Fuits, built on DOS, meant that there were many obstacles.

So, how’s Jiss done/didn’t? This is a rather long story, but Joss thickened tens of hours of PS2’s persuades to run Windows 95 in less than half an hour (the video is invested above).
All JACE testing was used using Modded PlayStation 2, QWERTY keyboard controller, as well as USB -wheel and hard drive inserted into PS2 fat and data transfer. As part of the video you can see how Jace uses a specially prepared USB or hard drive that is packed in the following contents:
- The PlayStation File .Elf. This is a home -made blossom code that you need to run on Modded PS2. Dosbox and Bochs emulators for PS2 were tried.
- Virtual DOS Disk Dission or Image File
- Windows 95 Set the image of HDD or .iso
- Free section file or images to install Windows 95 and Doom
The initial time -consuming Jace efforts to use Dosbox to achieve their Windows 95 and Doom goals, and after at least 47 attempts to persuade the old -up to boot on the desktop, our mad scientist decided to go to another emulator called Bochs. The first is designed primarily to meet simple games, where the second is exhibited as a precise (and slower) common -purpose emulator.
If you watch the full video, you will almost feel Jason’s pain. Such a slow and unpleasant process of getting OS on this MIPS console. Almost every process took a wicked amount of time, which prevented the limited and slow introduction/output on the PS2, the emulating layer, and these early editions of the windows sitting uncertainly on DOS.
Using Bochs was also not a simple swim. Joss had to deal with a wide range of system obstacles, complaints of read errors, write errors, bot, drive letter and mounting configurations, missing files, drivers and more. However, they eventually saw the Windows 95 setup screen on their PS2 screen.
In general, it took about “14 hours” to complete the installation of Windows 95 by Jose. After all, on the desktop they managed to launch the paint, but without the mouse it was not very fun. The following attempts to take doom95 were both running, no surprise, infertile. However, we liked the journey.
