Platform X introduced Chata new messaging solution that replaces direct messages (DMs) with a wide range of functions. This update aims to compete with traditional messaging apps and expands the range of tools available to users by integrating voice and video calls, sending files, editing and deleting sent messages, and a strong focus on privacy with end-to-end encryption and post-screenshot notifications.
Chat that is now available on iOS and online and coming soon Androidrepresents an advance over the basic functionality offered by DM in X. In addition to additional protection with encryption, the service allows you to activate notifications in case someone takes screenshots of the conversation, increasing the security of private interactions.
The company will work to enable voice messaging, expanding the possibilities for dynamic and multifaceted communication. A relevant aspect of the update is that, according to the X Help Center, “group messages and multimedia can now be encrypted,” though it clarifies that associated metadata, such as recipient information, does not receive such protection.

X warns that the platform does not yet provide protection against man-in-the-middle attacks, which means that “if someone (a malicious insider or X himself as a result of a mandatory lawsuit) compromised an encrypted conversation, neither the sender nor the receiver would know”.
The company acknowledges the limitation and said it will develop new tools to verify the authenticity of encrypted conversations in the future.
With the introduction of Chat X, it shows progress towards a modern, multi-purpose messaging environment with greater privacy, although it remains the challenge of strengthening protection against security vulnerabilities in encrypted communications.
