The Final Fantasy developer insists the future is bright for Square Enix’s Xbox games.
It’s no secret that Square Enix has limited a lot of games outside of Xbox in recent yearsincluding major Final Fantasy releases. Now it seems that the Japanese company is very keen to make sure that changes in the future.
In a new interview with Eurogamer this week, Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida insisted that Square Enix wants to “strengthen the Xbox community with Final Fantasy games.”:
“With Final Fantasy XIV as our flagship, we want the Xbox community to enjoy the Final Fantasy franchise. I think this is where we need to have more communication and work to build community in the future. And this is important not for Final Fantasy XIV, but, I would say, for Square Enix.”
And even beyond Final Fantasy, the idea is to bring more Square Enix games to the Xbox:
“With Final Fantasy XIV as a starting point, we want to release more Square Enix games on Xbox, so yes, there will be more of our titles on Xbox. So I hope players will look forward to the upcoming releases of the platform.”
This isn’t exactly new information, as Square Enix confirmed a new cross-platform strategy earlier in the yearbut it’s interesting to hear Yoshida confirm the idea that we’ll soon have more games from the company on Xbox. Will this include games like Final Fantasy XVI? This seems very possible, but it ultimately depends on the type of deal that Sony has made with Square Enix in recent years.
