Huawei Nova 15 series with a 50 MP camera and long battery life

Huawei officially launched the Nova 15 series in China on December 22. The new mid-range family makes significant changes in design, autonomy and photos, with a clear distinction between the standard model and the Pro and Ultra versions, which include features typical of higher segments.

Huawei’s strategy in this generation involves strengthening two key areas in the Nova series. The brand strives for a more visible visual identity and a tangible improvement of the daily user experience, paying special attention to the screen, camera and battery, without changing the historical positioning of the line.

Updated design and 1.5K screens with LTPO technology

The Nova 15 retains a more conservative design with a vertical rear module inherited from the previous generation. In contrast, the Nova 15 Pro and Nova 15 Ultra use a horizontal dual-ring camera island that runs the entire width of the device and integrates the sensors and LED flash into a single unit.

All three models use a flat frame that improves grip and one-handed use. The Nova 15 Ultra reinforces its positioning with IP68 and IP69 certifications, increasing resistance to water, dust and heat, in addition to a body that reduces its thickness to 6.8 mm.

On the front, the Nova 15 is equipped with a 6.7-inch flat OLED screen, while the Pro and Ultra models are equipped with 6.84-inch 2.5D OLED panels. The entire series offers 1.5K resolution, adaptive LTPO refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz and thinner bezels.

Photo 50 MP and autonomy as the axes of the series

The photography department is supported by a 50-megapixel main RYYB sensor that is present in all three devices. The Nova 15 and Nova 15 Pro combine this sensor with a 12-megapixel telephoto portrait lens and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens designed for everyday photography.

The Nova 15 Ultra extends the offer thanks to the triple RYYB system. It combines a 50MP ultra-wide angle, a 50MP periscopic telephoto lens with 3.7x optical and up to 100x digital zoom, as well as a physically variable aperture and a Red Maple multispectral sensor aimed at color enhancement.

As for the front cameras, the Nova 15 is equipped with a 50 MP selfie camera with autofocus. The Pro and Ultra models have a dual front-facing camera led by a 50MP main autofocus sensor aimed at selfies, videos and advanced recognition features.

Autonomy is one of the pillars of the series. The Nova 15 has a 6,000 mAh battery, while the Nova 15 Pro and Nova 15 Ultra have a 6,500 mAh battery. All support 100W wired fast charging, while the Ultra adds 50W wireless charging.

The performance of the Nova 15 and Nova 15 Pro includes the Kirin 8020 processor with an improvement of up to 42 percent compared to the previous generation. The Nova 15 Ultra uses the Kirin 9010S with an 18 percent performance boost over the Nova 14 Ultra. The entire series comes with HarmonyOS 6.

Availability and pricing

Huawei has confirmed that the Nova 15 series is now on sale in China. At the moment, the company is not announcing dates or markets for its international rollout, maintaining its usual strategy of phased launches by region.
