The largest PCIe Gen4 SSDs are usually prohibitively expensive, but we’ve found a model where the amount of storage you get for the money is better than others in its class.
The 61.44TB Solidigm D5-P5336, currently on sale at Newegg for $5,829.99, offers the best price per TB you can get for any solid state drive larger than 16TB.
The D5-P5336 uses QLC memory and a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface and comes in the E1.L 9.5mm form factor found in high-density servers. It’s not for the home desktop, but the large amount of storage makes it attractive where large solid-state storage is needed.

The 61.44TB model is the top of the range, with smaller versions offering less storage space at a higher cost per TB.
Once you look at the numbers, the price is surprisingly close to the price of everyday consumer SSDs.
A typical 2TB drive often costs around $80 per TB, and while this business model is generally more expensive, the gap per TB isn’t huge. Large solid state drives are usually much more expensive, so the price here is a bargain.
To get the best price, you should buy the unit in bulk. In practice, this means purchasing ten drives for a total of 614 TB, which brings the total cost to more than $58,300, but raises the cost per terabyte to a level unmatched by anything else in this capacity class.
At this scale, the price drops below $95 per TB, making it the cheapest way to buy a high-capacity PCIe Gen4 SSD right now.
Of course, the form factor limits where it can be installed, but the D5-P5336 is a practical option for environments that require an extremely large SSD without too much of an enterprise price tag.
