A Pokemon Go player found themselves “trapped” inside a local route because the game refused to let them complete it — leaving them trapped inside it.

Released back in July 2023, Pokemon Go’s Route system allows players to follow a special route around their community to meet special spawns and collect Zygarde cells to upgrade their ‘mon.

However, at launch, many were disappointed to find that creating Routes was limited to certain players and was so buggy that it was impossible to make them.

Pokemon Go trainer refuses to leave completed route

On The Silph Road subreddit on October 8, the trainer revealed that they had “fallen into an infinite route trap”

They said: “Yesterday I started, followed correctly and – should have – finished the route, but he did not give me the final option.

I tried restarting the program near the end and it didn’t work, so I left it and continued on my way home, hoping that somehow it would be fixed. Now I’ve covered 6 times the length of the route and it still bothers me.”

They went on to explain that they had restarted the app several times and more than eight hours later they were still getting messages that the route had resumed.

“Anyway, I won’t drop it until I have to, so I can see how long this bug will last,” they added.

Other coaches also chimed in to share their thoughts on the situation.

“The same thing happened to me recently. I should have solved it by quitting the police, but thank you for trying to see it through,” they said.

Another commented: “I got a finish button and when I clicked it there was no way to finish. I ended up having to drop the route. This happened several times.”

“It happened to me, this ATM error cannot be fixed. You must give it up, answered the third.

Niantic is working on updates for Routes, but it’s clear from the community comments that they still have some work to do.
