PokéTsume will be the first human drama based on the game, as it shows Akagi growing through her experiences with the game. She soon begins to find similarities between her favorite GameBoy game and the real world around her, even discovering that some of the people she interacts with represent classic characters from the game.
Nanase Nishino, who plays the main character Madoka Akagi in the upcoming series, was a former member of the Japanese idol group Nogizaka46. She started acting back in 2012, playing herself in the film “Romance of Nagizaki”. In 2022, Nishino won the Japan Academy Award for Newcomer of the Year, the equivalent of the Academy Awards.
Expressing her excitement about landing the lead role, Nishina revealed that she received the offer just days after expressing her interest in the role Pokemon-related role ever, and further stated:
“I’m very happy because I’m part of the generation that grew up with Pokémon, having played most of the series from the first to the last.”
The game itself is highly praised and critically acclaimed, averaging a near-perfect score from most reviewers and gamers.
The PokéTsume trailer features a two-player mode linked to cable support

The original GameBoy version of the game had two editions, Red and Blue, and required players to play against each other to trade and collect all Pokemon symbols. This was also shown in the trailer with a shot of Kageaki Hiyama and Nishino playing the game, connected by a cable, sitting face to face.

In the real-life game, a young guy named Ash embarks on a personal adventure as he fights to become the next Pokemon master, capture and train characters. The game is a traditional Japanese role-playing game that contains more than 150 Pokemon for Ash to discover and capture. The game became a worldwide sensation as fans battled each other Pokemon and traded cards, which was the only way to collect them all.
Several characters in the live-action TV series will be similar to the individual Pokemon, for example, Kageaki Hiyama resembles Charmander, and the employee in Akagi’s office resembles Magikarp. It all adds up to a promising TV series that should satisfy fans waiting for a true live-action adaptation.
