Late last year, Satechi released a new 7-in-1 USB-C hub for the iPhone. Use MagSafe and feel at home on Apple devices. I’ve had the pleasure of trying it out over the past few days, and I have to say that it’s definitely a great option if you feel it’s right for you.
Review
First of all, this hub has 7 ports: microSD, SD, USB-C port for charging and data transfer, two USB-A 5Gbps data ports, 4K 60Hz HDMI port and Ethernet. All of this fits into a small gray circle that can be placed on the back of the iPhone.
The OntheGo Hub has a built-in USB-C cable that you can unplug when you plug in your device and tuck away neatly when you’re done. Since it is completely self-contained, you can also easily store it in your backpack without worry.

Impressions
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that this hub probably isn’t very useful for most iPhone users. There really isn’t much reason to connect all these things to your iPhone, especially as wireless technology continues to improve.
However, it’s still a very nice and compact USB-C hub that you can use on any of your devices, including your iPad or MacBook.
Sure, MagSafe might be for the iPhone, but luckily Satechi has a little fix for that.
They include a magnetic ring in the box. So if you want, you can quickly attach it to the back of your iPad or MacBook, and you’ve got a sleek USB-C hub that doesn’t just hang off the side of your device. This is especially useful for iPad users with Magic Keyboard.

Wrap it up
As more people use iPads for professional work, you’ll probably want to connect things to your iPad other than USB-C cables. Personally, I love using my iPad to edit photos in Lightroom, but I can never easily connect my SD card to my iPad. Of course, any USB-C hub could solve this use case, but the elegance of having something well-designed that pairs well with Apple devices is very appealing.
I’ve written off the iPhone quite a bit in the past, but it’s not completely useless for the iPhone. If you’re an iPhone videographer, you can plug in USB-C flash drives (or SD cards) to record to external storage. This will be especially important if you have little storage space.
All in all, if you want to connect more things to your iPhone or just want a well-designed USB-C hub that magnetically attaches to the back of any of your devices, Satechi’s OntheGo 7-in-1 Hub is a great option. It’s like a Swiss army knife for USB-C hubs.
