Spyware found on iPhone capable of infecting millions of devices

Experts estimate that 220 to 270 million iPhones remain affected.

Cyber security researchers have discovered a new spyware capable of infiltrating millions of iPhones. The malware, labeled as “Darksword”, affects the latest versions of the iOS operating system used between 2025 and 2026.

According to a recent Reuters report, the program is distributed through hacked websites and exploits system vulnerabilities to gain access to devices. Experts estimate that between 220 and 270 million iPhones remain affected, mostly due to a lack of software updates by users.

“There is a chain of recent actions that ended up in the hands of criminal structures for financial purposes,” condemned the researcher quoted by the aforementioned media.

Experts recommend installing available security updates to reduce the risk of infection. This case joins other recent incidents that confirm the rise of attacks on mobile devices, especially in the Apple ecosystem.
