A physical copy of Fortnite Xbox One from 2017 costs $42,500

A physical copy of Epic Games’ 2017 game Fortnite sold for a whopping $42,500 last Friday at Heritage Auctions.

The Xbox One Sealed Copy received an overall score of 10 A++, the highest possible score according to the PSA List. The copy received 29 bids before reaching the final tally.

Fortnite, best known for being available digitally, received a limited physical release in 2017, a year before the battle royale game grossed $2.4 billion. the highest digital gain in a single year than any party in history.

The $42,500 total is far less than the amount ever spent on a paper video game. That honor goes to the original Super Mario Bros. for a 1985 Nintendo sold for $2 million in 2021

Athletes like NFL wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and NBA guard Josh Hart have been recognized as players over the years. In 2018, Hart named himself the best Fortnite player in the league.
