Disney deployment started “Greenery,” his innovative short-form video feed in a vertical format on the Disney+ mobile app for US users. This initiative, originally announced in January 2026, represents a significant strategic change in how streaming seeks to compete in an increasingly fragmented market focused on the consumption of short content.
Verts Feed works similarly to popular short video platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Users can scroll vertically through a custom sequence of clips taken from Disney’s extensive film and television catalog, spanning more than a hundred years of narrative content.
According to Disney, users will access this new feed through a specific icon in the app’s navigation bar. As they explore content, they can add TV shows or movies to their watchlist or access the full content directly from the preview.
“With the latest streaming hits and an incredible catalog spanning over 100 years of storytelling, we’re making it easy for fans to find out what to watch next,” the company wrote in a blog post. “Verts offers a fun and fast way to explore this directory from the moment users open the app. “It brings the magic of Disney storytelling to a format that is modern, engaging and tailored to the way fans already enjoy discovering video on mobile devices.”
Disney’s strategy reflects a deep understanding of the changes in today’s media consumption patterns, especially among younger users who are accustomed to vertical entertainment on mobile devices. During an initial test run in August on Disney+ and ESPN, the company saw a significant increase in daily user engagement, a phenomenon it attributes directly to the improved algorithm that powers the Verts recommendation system.
Disney announced its intention to eventually expand Verts to include creator-generated content that reflects fan communities, complemented by new storytelling formats and content types tailored to individual preferences.
This initiative is not an absolute precedent; Netflix previously launched a similar vertical feed, allowing users to watch clips from original works. However, Disney’s implementation shows that streaming platforms recognize the urgent need to adapt their content offerings to today’s consumption habits, where short videos generate greater engagement and frequency of use among specific audiences.
